Nirdhan Utthan Sanjivani Health Foundation, the non-profit community health academy was envisioned by Dr. Harihar Dev Pant, the father of microfinance movement in Nepal, with a realization that the poverty in the deprived community could not be resolved sustainably with financial services and access to finance alone.
Nirdhan Utthan Sanjivani Health Foundation came into existence with the main goal of reducing the poverty resulting from the health risks through raising health-awareness, provision of health services and operation of ancillary services for betterment of the communities.
Earlier, Community Based Micro Health Insurance (Sanjeevani) Program was piloted in Banke district by the Academy with the leadership of Dr. Pant and Nirdhan NGO with active support from the microfinance beneficiaries from the deprived community. The pilot program provided sufficient grounds for formulating the Act on Health Insurance and associated rules and regulations by the Nepal Government.
Sanjeevani Health Security Program concluded with the introduction of the health insurance in Banke district by the Nepal Government. The concluded program was then transformed into Sanjeevani Health Academy giving legality to the Program Committee and Sanjeevani Fund.
